“Claire-voie”

(klair-vwah)

: a French phrase that translates to “clear way”

: a type of window popular in 17th-century gardens, typically cut out of a hedge or garden wall to frame a vista or section of a garden

Anne’s mother taught her to knit and sew when she was a tiny tot in the ‘90s. After joking for years that she would someday start her own sweater company, Anne quit her job in 2025 and did just that! The name “Clairevoie” was inspired by Anne’s middle name and her belief that, after years of questioning her career path, this was a “clear way” forward.

Anne has always been fascinated by the ways we express ourselves, whether they be literature, dance, music, or the visual arts. In particular, she has always been interested in textiles and fashion history. Though fashion is often dismissed as frivolous and vapid, Anne believes it is a complex reflection (and driver) of gender politics, social mores, politics, technology, economics, and material science. Most importantly, it is a universal aspect of daily life that, as we mature, often becomes one of the few avenues we have left for play. Anne draws inspiration from myriad sources and strives to create pieces that will infuse your everyday life with beauty, creativity, and whimsy.

Before Clairevoie, Anne had a meandering career path that led her from bridal fashion to Hollywood to middle and high school education. She has been a classically trained pianist and ballet dancer since the age of three. In addition to her endeavors at Clairevoie, Anne currently works as a tutor, ballet teacher, and aerial dancer. In her free time, she loves to read, bake, write, and take tea with her cat, Selkie.

Our Approach

At Clairevoie, we try hard to be respectful of our planet and our fellow humans. Though synthetics are not always avoidable, Clairevoie strives to use natural or recycled materials and minimize use of microplastics. Prices reflect material and labor costs for pieces that, on average, take 4-8 days of full-time knitting to complete.

Anne designs and creates each piece entirely herself. As with all things handmade, you may see the hand of the maker in the form of slight imperfections. Please be assured that these are merely in the nature of handmade items and are part of what make your piece unique!
